Agape’s First Annual Guns or Roses Sport Shoot
Friday, October 20th, 2017 9AM – 1PM
Mission 160 – 6040 TX-160, Whitewright, TX 75491
Enjoy the great outdoors, some good ‘ole Texas BBQ, shooting contests and raffle of really cool stuff. Gather a few tips on how we can work together to raise awareness about domestic violence as a primary cause of homelessness for women and children and easy ways to expand awareness of nonviolent alternatives to domestic disputes.
**You do not have to be present to win the raffle**
So you might be asking, “Why is Agape, a transformational program for homeless women and children, hosting a shooting event?”
In fact, we hope everyone asks it. The question opens an opportunity for dialogue about tough topics:
domestic violence and sex trafficking.
For example, the question provides an opportunity to respond with….
- Did you know that 80% of the women Agape has sheltered are domestic violence refugees?
- Did you know that domestic violence was the 3rd highest cause given for homelessness in the 2017 Collin County Homeless Census?
- Did you know that Texas is the number 3 state in the US for sex trafficking volume?
- Did you know that DFW has the seventh largest human trafficking volume in the country and is considered one of the major sex trafficking communities in the country?
Conflict is inevitable.
We all have a choice on how to deal with it.
Violence is a choice.
Guns are at the extreme end of that choice.
We don’t want conflict to reach that point.
Conversation is the better choice…
And maybe roses.
